My plan for this shoot was to take photos of grapes in the snow in order to be able to highlight the purple color. It was fairly difficult to find something purple to take photos of, but I figured that I would try shooting food in order to try shooting something new.
My Shoot:
For this shoot I went outside into the snow and messed around with placing grapes on the ground so that the purple of the grape would contrast with the white of the snow. It looked really cool outside because we had just gotten fresh snow from the storm Sunday so I wanted to utilize nature and the things that were around me. I also used my dogs paw prints in a few of the prints to try to add a different element to the images.
My Edits:
To edit these images I didn't really do much because I didn't want the snow to be too bright and blinding, but at the same time I wanted the purple to pop. In order to do this I used the magnetic lasso so that I could only edit the grape and then I adjusted the vibrance as well as the hue. I did end up adjusting the brightness and contrast a little, but I was very aware of the brightness of the snow and avoided making the image too bright.
My Printed Photo:
This is my final image for the purple shoot titled Mystery. I titled this image Mystery because the color is supposed to elicit mysterious vibes. I also gave it this title because grapes are kind of an odd item to choose to photograph so I thought it added to the mysterious vibe that I was trying to create. This image is actually really really soft, it does not have a lot of sharp elements. However the white snow does allow the color to really pop against the white. To edit these photos I really messed a lot with the color balance to create a more vibrant purple rather than the reddish-purple of the original grapes. I then used the blur tool to to soften the edges of the snow around the grapes so that there wasn't such an abrupt color change. When I look at this photo the element of art I notice most primarily is space. The grapes are bunched together towards the front of the photo, but the rest of the image is filled with snow creating an open space. Some of this space as a soft or blurry texture, but some of it has hard, ice-like texture. The principles of design I observe in this image are unity and emphasis most specifically on the grapes in the center of the images. The grapes create a sense of unity because they are all together and one color. While the grapes also emphasize that they are the focus of the image because they are at the center. Overall, I really like the simplicity of this image, but also how there are several different textural elements.
