My plan for this shoot was to go out and take pictures of leaves before the began to fall of the trees. Leaves really capture the nature beauty of the color yellow without having to do much editing. I also wanted to try to do something creative with the leaves that had fallen of the tree, but my main focus was the leaves still on the tree.
My Shoot:
For this shoot I went out in the courtyard of the school because there were so many trees that were in the perfect transition phase to capture truly yellow leaves. I somewhat had to hurry with this shoot because I knew if I waited too long that the leaves would fall off the tree and turn brown, so I really needed to find the peak of color and quickly take the photos. When I went out to take this photos there were actually already a significant amount a brown, crunchy leaves on the ground. I really did get the perfect opportunity for this specific shoot.
My Edits:
I don't really like editing a lot, personally I prefer to make my images look as natural as possible. For these images I really just used photoshop to increase the brightness and saturation. I also changed the hue on the first and last image in order to eliminate some of the green on the leaves. By eliminating the green each of these images is able to solely focus on the color yellow. I really like to keep nature looking natural in their colors and in my editing. I did stray a little from a natural looking photo by arranging the leaves in a flowerish shape . I did this to create a different type of image that wasn't so similar to all of my other images.
My Printed Photo:
This is the photo I ended up printing for my "yellow"' shoot. The title of this image is Warmth because I'm titling the each in relation to how the color makes you feel when you see it based on research. I chose to print this photo because the color highlight for this shoot: yellow, was very prominent. I also really like that the viewer is able to infer what the theme of the photo is while the focused part of the image is actually the branch. I kept getting frustrated because the camera wasn't focusing where I wanted it to because there were so many branches, leaves, and different shades of yellow. But I finally decided to just focus the camera on the branch so that the warm yellow of the leaves were more of a background. With doing this I was also able to eliminate the majority of the green that the camera would've captured had it been focused on the leaves. I feel like I was able to naturally capture three elements of art without actually trying. After taking this image I realized that although I was shooting for color, I had also managed to include texture and line in this image. As an artist I feel that I'm beginning to naturally look for the elements and principles of art in my images without having to plan too much of how I'm going to include them. By doing this I'm growing as an artist and am beginning to act on instinct rather than having to plan out each detail of my shoot before I go out. I'm becoming more adaptable and continue to work towards a goal: completely my Color portfolio. Overall, I think that this image achieved the goal of a yellow shoot.
